The Service Center and Feed Mill are part of the University Farms system and are located approximately two miles west of the main campus.
The Service Center produces crops used for animal feed in addition to soybeans, corn and wheat for production. Further, the Service Center provides mechanical, repair and fabrication support for all University Farms equipment. Through our partnership with John Deere- Sydenstricker Nobbe, students are exposed to state-of-the-art equipment and provides hands-on experience to all the students.
The Feed Mill is a shared service facility used to prepare feed for swine and beef herds.
The Kuehn Farm located in Dowell, IL is part of the University Farms system and is located approximately 15 miles n
orth of Carbondale.

The farmland was gifted to the University through the estate of Harold and Norma Kuehn. In accordance with the wishes of the estate, a portion of the property was sold for the purpose of funding scholarships in support of students pursuing degrees in Plant and Soil Sciences as well as Animal Science. The large farm allows researchers to conduct large-scale experiments that will benefit farmers throughout the region.
Corn and soybean research will be conducted at the center, as well as studies in watershed management and erosion control. Proceeds from the crops help fund scholarships to SIU students.
